UNIQUE CREEK HOMESTEAD SEEDS: All of our seeds are grown right here on our Unique Creek Homestead and not sourced from elsewhere. All seeds are collected each growing season and are 1-year old or less, stored in air-tight Mason jars. Seeds are harvested and labeled for storage each season, one plant/seed type at a time so seeds do not get mixed by accident during the process! The seeds we use at the start of each growing season come from the exact same seeds we sell.

ABOUT THESE SEEDS: The Saraga Giant Sweet Chocolate pepper is a sweet, heirloom variety of pepper that originated at an Indiana market:
Size: The peppers can grow to be over a foot long and two inches in diameter. The plants can grow to be over four feet tall.
Color: The peppers start out green and ripen to a dark brown.
Flavor: The peppers are very sweet with a fruity taste that's similar to a Pasilla pepper.
Roasting the peppers increases their sweetness.
Uses: The peppers are great for stuffing, roasting, salads, and sweet sauces.
Growing: The peppers need full sun, average watering, and a mildly acidic or neutral soil pH. They should be planted 18–24 inches apart.
Germination: The peppers typically germinate in 10–15 days.
Sandra Tipton discovered the Saraga Giant Sweet Chocolate pepper in 2019 while shopping at an Indiana market called Saraga. She saved the seeds and shared them with the chile community.
 
Sow seeds in flats or pots 8 to 10 weeks prior to the expected outdoor planting date. Sow them shallowly, around 1/4 inch deep. Hot peppers, and especially super-hot peppers, have a well-earned reputation for being finicky to germinate, but you can increase germination rates by providing bottom heat (highly suggested).
