Tagetes erecta, the Aztec marigold, Mexican marigold, big marigold, cempazúchitl or cempasúchil, is a species of flowering plant in the genus Tagetes native to Mexico. Despite being native to the Americas, it is often called the African marigold.
The flowers are yellow or orange and have a strong, pungent scent. African marigolds are often used in traditional medicine as a treatment for stomachaches, Fever, ringworm, and other ailments. They are also considered to be lucky charms and are often used in magic spells and rituals.
To plant marigold seeds, simply scatter them on the surface of moistened potting mix or garden soil. Then, press the seeds lightly into the soil and water gently. Once the seedlings appear, thin them out so that they are spaced about six inches apart. Marigolds prefer full sun and well-drained soil.
